The Human

My name is Ildi and I love animals. I had many family pets over my lifetime, but it was not until 2014 when a career change allowed me to get my own dog, Charley, from the local shelter. Prior to that life changing decision, I had a 15-year career in government and the non-profit sectors working with criminalized and marginalized youth.

I decided to shift focus from youth and advocacy, to focus on pets, animals and all things related to them. I started working in a pet store, while also being a pet service professional (dog boarding, dog walking) and launching For Charley Pet Boutique. Charley was my life, my love, my handsome potato. I miss him dearly. He passed away in March 2018, after complications of his medical and behavioural issues. However, while I had the privilege of being his owner, I was obsessed with spoiling him whether with adventures, car rides or a cool carrier. I love pet products. 

For Charley was created so that I can continue to play a role in spoiling dogs and their owners. I want to help you enjoy your time with your own version of ‘Charley’ since I can no longer spoil my own.

The Dog

Charley was a four-year-old Papillon Mix rescue from the local city shelter in Toronto. Most likely he was a Papijack, a Papillon mixed with a Jack Russell Terrier. Whatever he may have been, he had a unique, breed ambiguous look that turned heads everywhere he went. He was handsome. The first four years of Charley's life were a mystery, but the last four which he spent with me, were certainly filled with adventures and cuddles. Despite the unexpected medical and behavioural challenges with which he came, in the four short years together we were inseparable. 

Charley loved being on the balcony, going to visit his grandparents, and sitting in the sun. He got to go on many weekend getaways and hikes to places like Elora, Rattlesnake Point, Tobermory and many local Toronto parks. He even got to fly to Alberta where he visited Drumheller, Banff, and Lake Louise. Most of all he loved riding in the car and sleeping in his booster seat. Yes, we had many rough days and nights, but overall, he was a spoiled and loved pup.
